Summary

Provinces are the units into which a region is administratively divided, with a characteristic productive destination and cultural identity (technically called Microregion), defined for Interior Government purposes. It is made up of communes and must have a capital that is the seat of its authority, the Governor, and the other institutions of this territorial unit. Currently there are 54 provinces nationwide.[La Provincia es el territorio en que se divide administrativamente a una región, con destino productivo característico y con identidad cultural (técnicamente denominado Microregión), definido para fines de Gobierno Interior. Se conforma por comunas y debe contar con una capital que constituye la sede de su autoridad, el Gobernador, y de la demás institucionalidad propia de esta unidad territorial.
