Relief shown by hachures and spot heights. Caravan routes, Mr. Wakefield's route in 1865, and Messrs. Wakefield & New's route in 1866-7 are shown. "The names of Positions astronomically determined by, or from the information of scientific travellers (Burton, Speke & Decken) are engraved in a thick lettering; Positions inserted from the reports of Sadi Ben Ahedi and the missionaries (Erhardt, Rebmann, Krapf, Wakefield &c.) are shown in a thinner character; Reported districts of more doubtful position, in the lightest lettering."
