Summary
This point shapefile contains the locations of region capitals within Tajikistan. Tajikistan consisits of 4 regions. The provinces (viloyat) of Sughd and Khatlon, the autonomous province (viloyati mukhtor) of Gorno-Badakhshan (Viloyati Mukhtori Kuhistoni Badakhshon), and the Region of Republican Subordination (Raiony Respublikanskogo Podchineniya, formerly known as Karotegin Province). These are the level 1 administrative division (ADM1) capitals. Point data also include populations from the 1989 Soviet Census. This dataset is intended for researchers, students, and policy makers for reference and mapping purposes, and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production, or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data.
