Summary: This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Plan de Geneve et de sa banlieue, dresse par J.R. Mayer, ingenieur. It was published by Briquet & fils in 1880. Scale 1:3,000. Covers Geneva, Switzerland. Map in French. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the European Datum 1950, Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zone 32N projected coordinate system. All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legends, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as roads, railroads and stations, street railway lines, drainage, built-up areas and selected buildings, cemeteries, parks, docks, and more. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from the Harvard Map Collection. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features. The selection represents a range of originators, ground condition dates, scales, and map purposes.

Summary: This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Plan de Geneve et de sa banlieue. It was published by Briquet & fils in 1908. Scale 1:6,000. Covers Geneva, Switzerland. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the 'CH1903_LV03' coordinate system. All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legends, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as roads, railroads, street-railroads, drainage, built-up areas and selected buildings, parks, and more. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from The Harvard Map Collection as part of the Imaging the Urban Environment project. Maps selected for this project represent major urban areas and cities of the world, at various time periods. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features at a large scale. The selection represents a range of regions, originators, ground condition dates, scales, and purposes.

Title: Carte d'Afrique (Raster Image)
- Raster data
- 2013
- Not owned by MIT (Owned by Stanford)
Summary: This layer is a georeferenced raster image of an historic continental map of Africa from 1851, originally created by Pierre M. Lapie and Alexandre Émile Lapie, and engraved by Armand Joseph Lallemand. All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, or other information associated with the principal map. This map was georeferenced by the Stanford University Geospatial Center using a Sinusoidal projection. This map is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps of Africa held at Stanford University Libraries. This historic paper map provides an historical perspective of the cultural and physical landscape during this time period. The wide range of information provided on these maps make them useful in the study of historic geography. As this map has been georeferenced, it also can be used as a background layer in conjunction with other GIS data. The horizontal positional accuracy of a raster image is approximately the same as the accuracy of the published source map. The lack of a greater accuracy is largely the result of the inaccuracies with the original measurements and possible distortions in the original paper map document. There may also be errors introduced during the digitizing and georeferencing process. In most cases, however, errors in the raster image are small compared with sources of error in the original map graphic. The RMS error for this map is 3693.04 meters. This value describes how consistent the transformation is between the different control points (links). The RMS error is only an assessment of the accuracy of the transformation.
