  1. Title: Wall Towers and Gates, Paris, 13th to the 17th Century

    Summary: This point shapefile contains the locations of historic wall towers and gates in Paris from the 13th to the 17th centuries. The ALPAGE programme aims to provide collaborative tools for the Humanities and Social Sciences and for Information Communication Technology (ICT) allowing for the development of research about the Parisian urban area. This aim is achieved by means of a GIS that includes cadastral and historical layers. APUR © ALPAGE: E. Lallau and H. Noizet, 2010. ISO 19139 XML Metadata (in French) and a full copy of the license (ODBL) are included with this layer. This data is a direct result of the work of the researchers from the ALPAGE consortium who released this data under an Open Data Commons Open Database Licence (ODbL). All freely downloadable data contains the shapefiles, metadata file and licence files describing the users rights and responsibilities. All data produced within the consortium is published in this way with the exception of any ongoing work which is in process of academic evaluation (masters, doctoral thesis, habilitation to supervise research). This layer is presented in the WGS84 coordinate system for web display purposes. Downloadable data are provided in native coordinate system or projection.

  2. Title: Ancient, Medieval, and Modern Walls, Paris, 308-1970

    Summary: This polygon shapefile represents walls erected in the city of Paris, France, starting from the Roman Era until the 18th century (308-1970). This layer includes roman walls on the Île de la Cité, a medieval wall on the right bank, the Wall of Philippe Auguste, the Wall of Charles V, the Louis XIII Wall (also known as the 'yellow ditches wall'), and the Wall of the Farmers-General. The ALPAGE programme aims to provide collaborative tools for the Humanities and Social Sciences and for Information Communication Technology (ICT) allowing for the development of research about the Parisian urban area.   3. Title: Urban Blocks, Paris, 1553

    Summary: This polygon shapefile contains the boundaries of urban blocks in Paris during 1553. These data were taken form the Basel plan and characterize urban desity levels for each block according to the representation on the plan (low, medium, high). The Plan of Truschet and Hoyau (called the Basel Plan), shows the city around 1552-1553.   4. Title: ALPAGE

    Summary: ALPAGE is a geohistorical platform about Paris. Based on a work dynamic initiated in 2006 with support from the French National Research Agency (ANR) this work then continued on beyond the funded phase (2006-2010). The initial project brought together twenty researchers in Social and Human Sciences and in Information and Communication Technology. Coordinated by Hélène Noizet, these historians, geomaticians and computer scientists have laid the foundations of a Geographic Information System (GIS) of the pre-industrial Parisian area. The spatial reference data, produced for the beginning of the 19th century and for the medieval period, have been made freely available online on a webmapping platform and is also available for download. A considerable amount of data has been produced not only on the medieval period but also on the modern period and on the 19th century. As regards to the geographical scale of the project, which remains limited to Paris, a partnership with the programme Archéologies du Bassin Parisien of the UMR 7041 ArScAn has enabled access to geohistorical frameworks across the Parisian basin.   5. Title: Plot Prospecting Zones of the Carolingian Wall, Paris, 9th to 12th Centuries

    Summary: This polygon shapefile represents prospecting plots used to define the layout of the Carolignian Wall in Paris, France. Archaeological and textual documentation were used for geographic reference and matched against plot boundaries derived from Atelier Parisien d'Urbanisme (APUR) data from 2006. The ALPAGE programme aims to provide collaborative tools for the Humanities and Social Sciences and for Information Communication Technology (ICT) allowing for the development of research about the Parisian urban area.
