- 2012
- Not owned by MIT (Owned by Stanford)
Summary: The Nature Conservancy and Stanford University contracted Aerial Information Systems to develop a 2005 and 2012 Anderson level II terrestrial Land Use/Land Cover map for a portion of the Salinas Valley in Monterey County and portions of several valleys in the greater Pajaro River and San Benito River watershed in San Benito, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz counties, to support research and future modeling efforts in the area. This collection contains 2 geodatabases as well as 5 shapefiles, which were derived from the database feature classes. System requirements: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software that reads ESRI shapefile format.

Title: INOGO Mapas 2012: a high resolution map of land cover in the Osa Peninsula and Golfito region of Costa Rica
- Not specified
- 2014
- Not owned by MIT (Owned by Stanford)
Summary: As a part of the INOGO Phase 1 Terrestrial Ecosystems Component, an in-depth analysis of land use and land cover in the region was undertaken using RapidEye satellite images. This analysis, called INOGO Mapas 2012, is currently in a “beta” (draft) form. INOGO Mapas is based on the prior Ecomapas land use classification, which was produced by INBio in 1998-99. INOGO Mapas is the highest resolution (5x5 m.) land cover classification of the Osa and Golfito region, and likely of almost any study area of comparable size in the world. The map partitions the landscape into more than a million unique polygons with each one classified through an automated process followed by manual verification. This map is virtually cloud free, a feat achieved by using up to eight individual satellite images of the same location to acquire cloud-free viewing of each pixel. In total, INOGO Mapas uses 46 individual RapidEye satellite images, acquired through a custom tasking of the satellite for the INOGO study area during the summer of 2012. System requirements: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software that reads ESRI shapefile format.

Summary: This polygon shapefile contains land use and land cover classifications for the Osa and Golfito region of Costa Rica. As a part of the Osa and Golfito Initiative (INOGO) Phase 1 Terrestrial Ecosystems Component, in-depth analysis of land use and land cover in the region was undertaken using RapidEye satellite images. See the supplemental information section of these metadata for Land use type and code classifications. INOGO is an international collaborative effort to develop a strategy for sustainable human development and environmental stewardship in the Osa and Golfito Cantons of Costa Rica. The effort's core is a collaboration between people and institutions in the US and Costa Rica, facilitated by the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University. INOGO is designed to build on the many previous efforts in the region, working hand in hand with Costa Ricans in local communities, in the public and private sector, and with NGOs to create a shared vision and long-term strategic plan for a sustainable future for the Osa and Golfito region. The project integrates the sociocultural dimensions of the Osa and Golfito region with both its marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Title: The United States of America, W. Barker sculp. Philadelphia (Raster Image)
- Raster data
- 2015
- Not owned by MIT (Owned by Stanford)
Summary: This layer is a georeferenced raster image of a map of the United States originally created by Matthew Carey and engraved by William Barker. The original paper map was published in Carey's American Pocket Atlas (Lang and Ustick, 1796, 1st ed.), which includes 19 maps showing roads, rivers, and boundaries for the different states and territories of the U.S. All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, or other information associated with the principal map. A scanned version of this map was georeferenced by the Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA) at Stanford University. This map is part of a selection of georeferenced historic maps from the David Rumsey Map Collection at Stanford University. This map provides an historical perspective of the cultural and physical landscape during this time period. The wide range of information provided on these maps make them useful in the study of historic geography. As this map has been georeferenced, it also can be used as a background layer in conjunction with other GIS data.
